CHAPTER TWENTY-TWO
The Echoes of Memories

<<   Page 39   >>
Through the darkened, shadowed filled streets of the city, Raven ran. His lungs burned, and his mind reeled. He yearned only to wake from the nightmare heíd been living. Night slowly turned to day, burning away the shadows of the long Unseelie night. Raven walked mindlessly, a solitary traveler lost in an unfamiliar land. The cobbled pathways of the city had long since traded neatly placed stones for the hard packed dirt of a cow trail wandering through the dense forest. He laughed bitterly to himself. He didnít even know if cows existed here. Dark forms of small creatures scurried from tree to tree, and overhead a lone bird trilled. His instincts screamed for him to stop, but he didnít care.

Raven stumbled, and cursed his own clumsy feet. Brushing himself off, he raised his eyes to find he was no longer alone. A pair of beady, black eyes stared back at him. Next he became aware of the musky stench, radiating from what appeared to be a haggard old woman. Getting to his feet, he pointedly ignored the hag. The ugly creature cackled.
