Sunlight filtered through the narrow tower window, onto the form of a sleeping Elvin girl. She smiled slightly, enjoying the bit of natural warmth that it offered. Emmelyne sleepily rolled from her back onto her stomach, bunching up the blanket that was covering her. Not yet fully awake, she let herself dose, comforted by the warmth of the sun and the trill of the birds in the forest far below. Forgetting all that had happened, Emmelyne felt at ease, like when she was back in her forest. When she was younger, she would often awake laying against her father feeling something that was comparable to this.
As the elf began to wake, some of the less pleasant memories of recent events began to surface. Emmelyne frowned, and a soft but reluctant sigh escaped from her lips.
Why does remembering hurt more than the actual events ever could? She wondered to herself. What’s the use of even getting up? After all…what difference can I possibly make now? There was a slight tightness in her chest, and the feeling of butterflies in her stomach. It was a familiar feeling... one that had always been there with her through her darkest days.
