DARK ELVIN
Dark Elvin (Death)
The Elvin God is the dual god of Life and Death. The Life half is called the
Forest God and resides in the Eastern Forest of Illusions. The Death half is
called the NightWatcher and resides in the Western Forest of Illusions. The
elementals of Life and Death are the Elves. There are two Elvin courts, the
Seelie and UnSeelie. The Seelie are the Elementals of life and reside in the
Eastern Forest of Illusions. They have the gifts of Healing and Life Giving. The
UnSeelie are the Elementals of Death and reside in the western Forest of
Illusions. They are the bringers of death and plagues.
Dark Elves
Dark Elves, the Night Elves, Lords of the Unseelie Court, Children of the NightWatcher.
All these names refer to the malicious and callous Dark Elves, the bringers of
death and despair. It is this secretive race that keeps parents wondering if
their children are safe in their beds, all the while telling them tales of the
evil that exists in the forbidden forests to the west, also know as the Western
Forest of Illusions to the Elves. The Dark Elves are a race governed by
instinct and survival, often being less sociable and intelligent then their
fair cousins of the Seelie Court. While their Light Elf counterparts are
attractive and beautiful, most Dark Elves are not. They are cold, cruel and
most commonly raid, plunder and steal from humans and other species. Their
enjoyment comes through hate and malice, causing pain and sorrow to others is
often their goal in life. Most favor terrorism and slaughter, but there are
some among these creatures ranks who prefer more subtle means of chaos seeding,
and these are often more approachable to talk with than are their more savage
brethren. All Dark Elves have an inner beast that gives them their instinct and
natural hostility. Older Dark Elves have often managed to control this beast
and keep it in check, while younger ones still struggle with their feral nature
that dwells within them. The Dark Elf hierarchy is governed by power. To
advance in status, a Dark Elf must challenge those above him or prove himself
worthy in some way. At the top of the chain stand the Unseelie Elders, a
collection of the most powerful and intelligent Dark Elves, who rule with an
iron grip over the lands of the Western Forest of Illusions. Each area of the
Forest and surrounding lands is split up into a domain, ruled over by a Domain
Lord, who are often powerful in their own right as like the Elders, but not
quite to that standard. Next down from these Lords are the generals. A Domain
Lord will usually have several armies under his command, and so a general is
selected to lead each one. Under these are the Sergeants, who each take control
of a regiment or platoon, and are given orders directly from the general most
of the time. At the bottom of the scale are those normal Dark Elves, who have little
or no status and are expected to serve their superiors to the best of their
malicious ability. There do exist, among some of the Dark Elves, those who
possess great degrees of intelligence. These Elves are highly prized by the
Elders and Domain Lords, and are awarded the title of Advisors. While not
existing within the normal chain of command, Advisors do hold a great deal of
respect among their peers, and are usually called upon to help their fellow
rulers. This is not to say that Advisors are completely trustworthy. Many and
Advisor has usurped the power of a Domain Lord and taken his place as ruler of
the domain. Generally, the Advisors have their own motives and plans, and
strive to manipulate their superiors rather than work with them. The Dark Elves
come in many different shapes and forms. Below are examples of the most common
varieties of the Children of the Night. Other unique types of Dark Elves exist,
but these are common archetypes of Dark Elves, which seem to have secluded
breeding amongst their own individual subraces.
Goblins
Goblins are a subrace of short, wiry and grayish skinned Dark Elves. While
being small in size, they are often surprisingly strong and possess a
remarkable degree of stealth and swiftness. They have the ability to see almost
perfectly in the Dark, yet find the light of the sun a little too intensifying
for them. While not overly intelligent, Goblins are capable of crude tactics
and ambushes, but don't put it past a Goblin to perform any mentally
challenging tasks. Despite their physical prowess, Goblins are naturally
cowardly, and very fickle, usually finding beer a better alternative to
fighting, and will attempt to get out of any work or combat they must perform.
Unfortunately, more often than not, this usually isn't an option; as such
activities would attract the wrath of their local Domain Lord. Goblins often
take evil, corrupt wolves as their steeds into battle if they are to be
mounted.
Trolls
Trolls are a similar subrace to the Goblins, but much larger in size. They
possess enormous physical strength, but are about as intelligent as a brick.
They stoop over naturally because of the huge frame they support, and support
very large jawbones. Trolls usually look out of proportion, with long limbs and
drooped faces, and have a green hued slimy skin. While being exceedingly
strong, and having the physical prowess to pull roofs off houses, and become
merely bruised after several catapult hits, the Troll's stupidity is its
downfall. They become easily confused, and have trouble counting opponents past
three. It has been known for a Troll to wander round through an entire battle,
wondering about how to consume random houses most effectively. Needless to say,
no Troll has ever made it to become and Elder, or even a Domain Lord, and are
watched carefully by their superiors, who fear their generally dumb nature.
Demons
A rare breed indeed, but a powerful one at that. Demons resemble a person's
worst nightmare of horrid, ugly creatures from the abyss. These monsters
(monsters to put it nicely) are red, scaly creatures, with snouts like those of
primal hound, large claws, fierce spines and two bat-like wings. They have the
largest tendency for violent acts, and will attack perceived threats almost
instantly. While not stupid, they are far from subtle, often feeding off the
flesh of others. They are strong (but not quite as strong as the Troll), but
usually lack in agility. They usually serve as generals, and above all Dark
Elves, hate the Elves of Light with utmost severity.
Vampires
The Vampires are usually the most likely out of the Dark Elves to pass as a
human. They resemble humans in all fashions apart from slightly pale skin and
retractable fangs, which they can obviously hide. They feed exclusively on a
diet of blood, and possess strange and unique powers usually in the form of
physical enhancements or those of death/life drain or telepathy. They are
amazing infiltrators, possessing more intelligence than most Dark Elves,
usually at or above human level. Despite their great advantages, Vampires are
true creatures of the night, and suffer greatly for this. The world of day is
lost to them, as they burn away in the sunlight, weaker Vampires almost
instantly dissolving where their flesh is touched by the purifying rays of the
sun. Despite this deadly weakness, and human frail forms, Vampires are
amazingly resilient, naturally regenerating wounds and even lost body parts. It
is not unknown for a Vampire to survive decapitation. They may also utilize the
blood they drink, feeding their powers and being able to produce spectacular
effects with their 'blood magic'. Generally, a Vampire may only be killed if
his entire body is burnt away, which would either take full exposure to the
sun, or a bath in lava/fire or whatever may suffice. They may be weakened
considerably though if hacked enough in the conventional method. No Vampire can
strike at an opponent effectively if missing two arms and a leg. He would have
to wait for these to grow back (which usually does not take too long). Vampires
do not breed, and are considered Undead, and so are officially unnatural. They
create Vampires from the living, who must be human, transforming the mortal
into a Vampire. They are apart of the Dark Elf community because they first
appeared on Earth, when mankind was young and the Elves were old. The Dark
Elves offered them shelter from the sun, and powers over death when they saw
their dedication to Night Watcher. Since then, the Dark Elves have been loyal
members of the Dark Elf community, doing to work of all Dark Elves in reverence
to their Dark God, and have not betrayed them save for a few. These few live in
fear, as they, being Undead, are susceptible to the powers of their kin, the
Dark Elves.
Gargoyles
A drone like subrace with an unusually linked hive mind. Gargoyles are
reptilian creatures, which possess the toughness of mountain, the resilience of
stone. While revolting in appearance, Gargoyles possess a pair of large bat
wings and natural strength beyond that of most creatures. They are not
particularly clever, but may be taught simple tricks that benefit the subrace
as a whole due to the mind-link they possess. Not a lot is known about the
Gargoyles, as few remain among the ranks of the Dark Elves, and their declining
numbers remains a mystery also. Like Vampires, Gargoyles are creatures of the
night, and suffer adversely in the sun. Unlike Vampires, however, Gargoyles do
not take damage from the sun. Instead, whenever the sun rises, Gargoyles revert
to their natural state, stone, until the sun sets once again.
Hags
Although they resemble humans, these creatures have far fallen from the grace
of beauty that humankind possesses. Hags resemble repulsive humanoids with long
tangles hair, a green complexion to their skin, and a stooped walk. They practice
Dark arts, often using blood in their rituals. The Vampires themselves claimed
to have taught the hags everything that the hags presently know in terms of
magic. This may be true, but hags seem to favor subtler rituals, luring
rituals, as they feast on human flesh (not for nourishment, but more for the
satisfaction of their soul). Their practices have often earned them the title
of witches, but those who call them this to their face often meet a gory death
from the Hag's wretched claws.
Harpies
Harpies are the Bringers of the Night These creatures are a unique class of
Dark Elves, being somewhat a cross between large birds and Hags. Their body is
that of a large bird which may vary between the appearances of a hawk to that
of a vulture. However this distinction does not affect their social class. They
possess almost human-like heads, though most harpies carry a more bestial appearance.
Their whole body is covered in feathers though if one could see their flesh, it
would be deep, dark blue. They possess two wings instead of arms, allowing
flight like any other birds. These wings, however, hold a hand-like skeletal
structure which seems to be more like that of a bat than a bird. Although the
knowledge of blood sorcery or rituals is lost to them, they do have mastery
over the night, being able to darken the sky, and even cause eclipses or
similar effects if many band together in a concentrated effort. This is a rare
ritual which can be very draining if not fatal to the incanters.
A Harpies diet consists of meat, and meat alone, and they pursue this need
relentlessly, devouring small animals that they picked up from a swooping
assault. Like the Hags, they may feast on human flesh, but it would be for true
nourishment, and not for pleasure.
Incubi/Succubi
Incubi and Succubi are wondrous to behold. They possess the air and grace of
Light Elves, and appear much like them also. The difference being that they
have two small horns growing from their head, their skin is cream white, and
their iris is a deep red. The Incubi are male and the Succubi are female, and
both contain radically different attitudes. The Incubi wish for power supreme,
often rising to influential positions of sergeant or even general. Most of the
time, they do not wish to rise further, savoring the bloodlust of battle. They
have cold and sadistic hearts, loving to see another's pain, and wallowing in
the practice of torture and rape. The Incubi's sustenance comes from emotions
of fear and anguish, which they must feed off less they wish to 'starve'. The
Succubi are quite different on their outlook of life. They seem to enjoy sinful
activities that do not include outright violence. They spend most of their life
on drugs of various sorts, and use combat, frenzy inciting drugs during
battles. They almost never wear clothes, and lure large amounts of humans, or
most preferably Incubi or other attractive Dark Elves, into big senseless
orgies. The Succubi feed instead off sexual activity. Without it they, like
their Incubi cousins who fail to feed off negative emotions, will die.
Many other types of Dark Elves exist, but these are often
unique or very rare. Many other Dark Elves often wonder about the origins of
their unique and powerful peers.
