SERPENT

Serpent (Fire)

The elementals of fire are Firedrakes. Firedrakes are a shape-shifting race of people who are able to transform from their humanoid shape into fire breathing lizards. They dwell in the Great Desert of the Eastern Continent. Their god is known as the Inferno God.

Fire drakes had problems with "political" affairs for some time, having wars that led to the destruction of some parts of the society. Since the war of Gonzul, a war that was held at the capital city, the people was split up in clans that leagued each other in a war against enemies. All stopped upon the reign of the king Talarus, about 10 years ago, when peace was declared. The clans still live on, as five of them still live on the lands. These clans are the Shaki, the Ronten, the Porala, the Likan and the Jilabos.

Shakis are known for their brutal natures and their customs that involve publics fight to settle a trouble among the villagers. Their skin when they are in drake mode is red.

Rontens live as nomads, passing from town to town, making the commerce of the entire Fire drake society. They don't like to enter the local conflicts for evident reasons, except maybe for selling armours. Another one of their hobbies is to go hunt in the desert for small scorpions or other animals that lurk in the desert to sell them for their food or for other reasons. Their skin when the look like drake is green.

Porala live near the oasis of the burning planes. The entire people rest upon the principle of agriculture, making them the cornerstone of the survival of the other clans. They share with everyone who comes, and if they have to defend themselves, they are fierce and will protect their lands to the death.

Likan are the administrators of the cities and the other half works underground to gather minerals. With their better intelligence, they manage to get city working, so that no goods is needed. They used to live in the southern desert. Their skin in dragon form is purple.

Jilabos are the craftsmen. They are pretty good at doing tools. Living in the northern deserts, the go out mostly at night. Some of the people made another branch and scattered around the world. No one knows why they did such a thing, but some speculations say that the Inferno God called them to be the scouts of the society.

War of Gonzul

The capital city was found to have a lot of resources buried under it. When rare minerals were found, some people wanted to get control of the resources to have a better control on all the population. The proconsul of the cities gathered and planned the king's assassination. The king was killed using a poison in his food and that day marked the great war. With the king out of the picture and the prince too young to rule, the proconsuls made war against each other to know who would win the city. Great misery followed and in months famine was about to destroy everyone when someone came, someone called Talarock. Talarock was the grandfather of the young king and was believed dead until that day. He went to see his grandson and claimed he was able to rule the country. The young drake claimed his place and was named Talarus. After only a week of fight, he proved himself worthy of the throne by winning against every proconsul. After that war, the separation of the resources under the capital city was made. The war lasted for about 2 years and a half, and made a lot of innocent victims.

Consequences of the war of Gonzul

The war left some profound scars in the drake society. Some clans don't want to talk to each other for the war still goes on in their heads. Likens and Ronten are the two clans that still have a conflict. The administrator and miner society had a common dispute about who should control the commerce in cities. No one agreed to that point, and since then hatred can still be visible on that clan. Not all relations were wasted because of the war. The relations between the Porala and the Jilabos is so good they cohabit without any problems. Both the societies live in symbiosis and this situation is mostly do to one fact : the majority of the people from both of the societies went out of the deserts during the conflicts and lived with other races. They learned, not without difficulty, how to tolerate themselves and eventually went to live as a ghetto in the other persons cities. Economically, the drakes have not yet recovered completely from the war : they still have cities to rebuild, roads to restart and more importantly, make the society a better place to live.

Relations

Fire drakes kept minimal relations with other cultures until the war. The war made a lot of people want to get out of their country to go somewhere else, where the wrath of war couldn't get them. The went on as refugees and lived in forests and learned a lot from the other races. In our days, the drakes learned how to cohabit with the other persons around them, and if someone needs help, they will come, except if they don't want to. Drakes keep a relation of peace with the neighbour races and keep a good commercial link with them.

Religion

There are two major beleifs in the drake society, the Platism and the Macroism. The Platism, religion that about half of the population beleive in, tells that the drakes here on Dragon's Breath are there to show their worth. They think their god intentionnaly placed people to meet them, to interact only to prove their worth in another life. If they don't suceed the test, they will be put in another life upon the society, a life of misery and poverty. Those who succeed get back after their lives in another body, a body who will have a good faith. Sometimes, their god goes on to check who is everyone, and if all goes wrong, it will get worse with plagues, agricultural problems, wars, etc. Otherwise, if all's well, the blessing will show by the unusual rain. The person who follow this religion must celebrate the glory of the god once a month and give a part of the culture to the crurch. Once a year, everyone is gathered around to listen to the myth of the gods and after the story everyone is invited to celebrate over on a dinner and there is some music, people are invited to dance etc.
